A call was received from a 6m boat that was 7nm off Kohi Point.  The boat had steering problems and was making way towards Kohi at 6kn.  It requested a tow over the bar.  Sea conditions were good with wind from NNW at 6-9kn and a low NW swell. Whakatane Rescue was tasked to assist and was under way at 1504hr.  A rendezvous was made with the boat that was taken under tow and both vessels returned to port safely at 1559hr.
