Person in water – 11/22/2016 – 18:21 to 19:41

At 1821hr Whakatane Rescue was tasked by Coastguard Eastern Region to assist in locating and rescuing  a person in the water from an upturned kayak  2 km  off Murphys Motor Camp at Matata.The weather conditions were very good with a 5-7kt wind from the  N and a calm sea.The person was well equipped with a wet suit, hand held radio and flares that he activated which enabled the Rescue boat to locate his position at 1917hr.He was taken on board suffering from mild hypothermia.Whakatane Rescue returned to port at 1941hr.An ambulance was waiting to take the person to hospital.Well done to all concerned and a great outcome.
