Lost Propellor – 08/31/2016 – 11:30 to 15:20

At 1130hr a call was received from a 6.1m aluminium boat with 4 POB that it had lost its propellor. The boat was 9nm west of the Raurimu Islands. Sea conditions were good with a 5-8kt wind from the south and little swell. An all stations alert was made and a good samaritan offered to tow the boat back into Thornton River. At 1202hr another good samaritan offered to take a crew member from the disabled boat back to Whakatane to retrieve the car and trailer and drive to Thornton. At 1422hr one boat had returned to Whakatane and at 1520hr the disbled boat under tow was safely back in Thornton River. Many thanks to the good samaritans.
