Gearbox – 09/11/2016 – 13:45 to 15:10

At 1345hr a call was received  from a 5.5m fibreglass boat with 3 POB. It had gearbox problems at the 22m mark off  Thornton River. Sea conditions were good with 4-6kt wind from the east and little swell. Whakatane Rescue was tasked with assisting and was launched at 1420hr. At 1448hr the boat was under tow and at 1505hr crossed Thornton Bar. At 1513hr Whakatane Rescue reported that it had taken the boat to the Thornton Ramp and was crossing the Thornton Bar on its return trip to Whakatane. Whakatane Rescue was safely back in Whakatane River at 1525hr.
