A 4.1m white fibreglass boat with 2 people on board reported that it had broken down with a fuel pump problem off the Radio Mast. Sea conditions were reasonable with 10kt WNW wind and incoming tide.  Whakatane Coastguard made an all stations call and two boats responded. Good Samaratan No.1 took the boat in tow. However, under the towing conditions Good Samaritan No.1 ran low in fuel and Good Samaritan No.2 took over the tow. All were safely back in the river at 1453hr.  Many thanks to the two good samaritans.
