At 1534hr a 4.6m fibreglass boat with 1 POB reported that it had a faulty electrical system and needed assistance.  It had installed a new battery recently but a fault had developed. The boat reported its location as close to the rocks on the eastern end of Whale Island. The sea was calm with 3kt wind from WSW. An all stations alert was made for assistance and a tow back to Whakatane. With no reply from the all stations alert, Whakatane Rescue was tasked to assist and was launched at 1630hr with a crew of 3. At 1644hr, Whakatane Rescue reported that it had found the boat and with the aid of a power pack got the boat operational and was returning. At 1655hr both boats were safely back in port.
