A badly broken cell phone call was received reporting that a 8m aluminium boat with 2 POB had electrical problems and needed assistance. The boat was 3nm north of White Island. Sea conditions were good with 4-6kt wind from NW and 6nm visibility.  A good samaritan provided assistance and towed the distressed boat into Works Bay at White Island where it anchored to await another tow to Whakatane. At 1254hr Whakatane Rescue was tasked with providing assistance and with 3 POB was launched at 1325hr. At 1423hr Whakatane Rescue was alongside the vessel at White Island and at 1430hr had the vessel under tow.  At 1608hr both vessels were safely back in port.
