A 5.7m aluminum boat with two POB reported an electronics problem approaching Whakatane Bar.  Weather conditions were good with 5kt wind from South and calm sea.  Whakatane Rescue with six POB was leaving port at 0745hr to do a patrol for a Jetski flotilla travelling from Waihau Bay around White Island and then to Ohiwa Harbour.  Whakatane Rescue stopped and discused the problem with the boat in trouble.  The boat decided to travel over the bar under its own steam whilst Whakatane Rescue watched.  The boat safely crossed the bar and Whakatane Rescue carried on to rendezvour with the Jetski flotilla.
