It was reported that a 3.7m dingy with two adults on board had overturned on Thorton Bar. Both passengers were wearing life jackets.  Sea conditions were good with fine weather and 5kt wind from the north. The tide was incoming and there was a 0.5m swell from NE. At 11.18hr observers reported that 1 person was ashore and one still in the water.  A 111 emergency call was transmitted and the launch Port Whakatane responded.  At 11.26hr Police advised that all were safe and the operation to save the seamen was stood down. A good samaritan vessel agreed to retrieve the dingy which was towed ashore at 11.58hr.
