At 0640hr Coastguard Northern Region advised the Whakatane Coastguard Duty Officer that a boat needed assistance. Details of the incident were obtained from Coastguard Eastern Region. The boat was a 6.5m fibreglass boat with 3 POB and had engine problems. The boat was 1nm north of Kohi Point.  Sea conditions were good with an 8kt wind from NNE and 0.5m swell. At 0645hr Whakatane Rescue was tasked to assist and at 0720hr Whakatane Rescue was launched and the boat was under tow at 0747hr. At 0755 both boats were safely back in port.
