Diver Overdue – 25/1/2025 1735 to 1930 (7)
Police advised there was a diver missing at the Raurimus. Whakatane Rescue II was tasked, located the diver on the rocks at the Raus and took him back to the dive boat which then returned to Thornton. Whakatane Rescue II was stood down and returned to Whakatane.
Mechanical problem – 15/1/2025 0821 to 1034 (6)
A boat with 2 POB reported behind Whale Is with a mechanical problem and requested a tow back to Whakatane. Conditions were good with a slight sea and 20km visibility. Whakatane Rescue II was launched and located the vessel at the 110m mark behind Whale Is. The stricken vessel was safely towed back to Whakatane.
Mechanical problem – 14/1/2025 0741 to 0942 (5)
A boat with 1 POB reported 1nm SE of Whale Is with a mechanical problem and requested assistance. Sea conditions were good with a slight sea. Whakatane Rescue II was tasked, located the vessel and towed it back to Whakatane.
Mechanical problem – 12/1/2025 1552 to 1615 (4)
A boat with 3 POB reported 1km off the Whakatane Bar with a steering problem and requested a tow back across the bar. The call was heard by another vessel who offered to help. Conditions were good with a slight sea. Both boats returned safely back into the Whakatāne River. A big thank you to the Good Samaritan.
Boat unsure of crossing the Whakatane Bar – 8/1/2025 1742 to 1819 (3)
A boat outside the Whakatane Bar with 5 POB was unsure how to cross the bar. Whakatane Rescue II was launched located the vessel and advised the correct procedure. The boat then crossed the bar safely back into the Harbour.
