Recent Emergency Callouts - Coastguard Whakatane

Overturned boat. – 10/21/2023 – 18:57 to 21:26

A boat with 2 POB, was observed overturning on the Whakatane Bar. Another vessel rescued the 2 POB. Whakatane Rescue II was tasked to recover the upturned boat. This was unsuccessful The boat was left just North of the bar with a strobe light on it. A big thank you to the Good Samaritan.

Electrical problem. – 10/06/2023 – 9:11 to 11:20

A boat reported 12nm North of Kohi Pt with an electrical problem and requested assistance. Whakatane Rescue II was launched, located the vessel and towed it safely back to Whakatane.

Engine problem – 10/04/2023 – 8:20 to 10:20

A boat off Ohope reported an engine problem and requested assistance. Whakatane Rescue II was launched and towed the vessel back to Whakatane.

Engine problem – 09/16/2023 – 11:00 to 12:15

A boat reported just outside the Whakatane Bar with an engine problem and requested assistance. Whakatane Rescue II was launched and towed the vessel back safely across the Bar.

Engine problem – 09/02/2023 – 19:10 to 20:10

The boat was towing another vessel back to Whakatane when it broke down with an engine problem. Whakatane Rescue II towed it safely back to Whakatane.
