Why should you do the course?
The Maritime VHF Operator Certificate is the minimum legal requirement for all users of Marine VHF Radios (except in the event of an emergency). For a full syllabus outline and to book this course, please refer to Coastguard Boating Education website.
Why it is important to be able to use a Marine VHF Radio?
• Continuous contact with search and rescue nationwide
• To communicate distress immediately
• To hear other boaties in distress
• To get regular weather updates
• A cell phone lets you talk to one person, a VHF lets you talk to many people
• It could save your life in an emergency
Note: If you change your call sign you MUST notify Coastguard Boating Education (0800408090) of the change because they are responsible for call sign registeration in NZ.
