Coastguard Whakatane

Communications Project

The communications upgrade is now almost completed except from some minor bugs that need to be ironed out.

We now have a modern and reliable communication centre, with the latest technology, that will be providing a service to our members for years to come. This project would not have been possible without our sponsors and the continuing support from our members.

We thank our sponsors and local businesses for their support with this project:

Lion Foundation,Southern Trust, BoP Community Trust, Pub Charity
Haddock Pray Painting, Orr Computer Services
.

A special thanks to Stephen Clews our project leader and David Haddock QSM who put in enormous hours with the refurbishment of the Communications and Server room.

How can you assist our operators?

Talk slowly special when you call your Boat name and Call Sign. Don't speak into the microphone, hold across and 5cm away.

When you plan to cross the bars at Opotiki, Ohiwa and Thornton, call before you cross the bar and again within ten minutes when you are safely across the bar.

Always provide a Trip Report before you depart, we need to know where you are if you are overdue.

In an Emergency always Call Channel 16 or Phone 111
