Why should you do the course?

The Maritime VHF Operator Certificate is the minimum legal requirement for all users of Marine VHF Radios (except in the event of an emergency).

Why it is important to be able to use a Marine VHF Radio?

Continuous contact with search and rescue nationwide
To communicate distress immediately
To hear other boaties in distress
To get regular weather updates
A cell phone lets you talk to one person, a VHF lets you talk to many people
It could save your life in an emergency

Note: It is a legal requirement that all VHF radio operators have a Radio Operators Licence. If you need a licence and call sign, contact Coastguard Boating Education (0800 408 090). Also, if you change your call sign, you must notify Coastguard Boating Education (0800 408 090) of the change.
